About Dr. Pezen

David S. Pezen, M.D. is a Chicagoland native. He began his education at Fenwick College Preparatory High School in Oak Park.  He went on to obtain a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Northwestern University in 1985. After graduation, Dr. Pezen began his medical training at Loyola University of Chicago.

While in medical school, he was awarded a position as a Howard Hughes Research Scholar at The National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. During his tenure at the NIH, he was involved in cutting-edge AIDS research, including the development of transgenic mice containing the complete HIV genome. 

After concluding his research fellowship, Dr. Pezen continued his medical education in Washington; with his medical degree conferred by George Washington University in 1991. He then completed a medicine internship at UCLA and his dermatology residency at The University of Chicago where he was also the Chief Resident in Dermatology. 

From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Pezen was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine and Dermatology Clinic Director at The University of Chicago. 

In 1998, he became a Clinical Associate at The University of Chicago when he opened a practice in Elmhurst. In 2002, Dr. Pezen left academia to pursue his practice full-time. During his entire tenure at The University of Chicago, Dr. Pezen was also the Director of the Dermatology-Oncology Clinic. Dr. Pezen’s professional interests include dermatologic surgery, melanoma, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

He is a Board Certified Dermatologist and is a member of The American Academy of Dermatology, The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, The Chicago Dermatological Society, and The American Medical Association. Dr. Pezen has also been listed in the Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and has published in Science, The Archives of Dermatology and The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

In addition, he has presented abstracts and has been an invited speaker at multiple national professional meetings.
